CCF presented with picture by OS, Major General John Drewienkiewicz
The Combined Cadet Force at the Stamford Schools has been presented with a picture by Major General John Drewienkiewicz CB, CMG.
Major General John Drewienkiewicz, known at ‘DZ’ is an Old Stamfordian. The picture presented depicts another OS, General Sir Mike Jackson GCB, CBE, DSO, DL, ‘laying down the law’ to the Kosovo Albanians in 1999.
General Jackson was appointed commander of NATO’s Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) in 1997. He returned to the Balkans with the ARRC during the Kosovo War, during which he famously refused to obey an order from American General Wesley Clark, his immediate superior in the NATO chain of command, to block the runways of Pristina Airport and isolate the Russian contingent that was positioned there. He reportedly told Clark, “I’m not going to start the Third World War for you”.
In addition to the picture General DZ presented Lt Lorraine Johnson with a certificate from the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire. Read more here.
