Outstanding GCSE results for Stamford Endowed Schools

Students of the Stamford Endowed Schools, Lincolnshire, have achieved outstanding results in this year’s GCSEs.

Stamford School, which caters for boys, has achieved its best results in a decade, with 55% of all exams passed at grade 9-7, or the equivalent A* – A.

Stamford High School, for girls, achieved equally impressive results.

31 pupils at Stamford School passed at least five exams at the top grades of 9, 8 or A*, while Stamford High School saw the same results for 24 pupils – a total of 55 across Stamford Endowed Schools.

Mr Nick Gallop, Head of Stamford School, said:

“As a year group, the boys have performed exceptionally well and this is one of the best set of results at GCSE that the School has ever achieved.  The boys have been outstanding in so many areas over the years – in drama, music, sport, adventurous pursuits – and have crowned all their achievements to date with the best set of GCSE results in more than a decade.  They should be rightly proud of their results today, which are an accurate reflection of all their hard work.  I am sure that they would want to thank their teachers too, who have worked extremely hard to support every boy.  We are all delighted that so many boys have surpassed their expectations.”

“I am delighted for the girls and very proud of everything that they have done over the past year. It is evident from the results that they have worked extremely hard in preparation for their exams, but it is notable that their personal successes in their academic studies are being achieved alongside their much broader learning, across music, drama, CCF and sport, and in dedicating so much of their time to their School, and to their wider community. Their attitude to learning is outstanding, and their acquisition of academic skills – and not just knowledge – will underpin their future studies. Their performance throughout their GCSE years, in every sense, has provided the ideal foundation for happy and successful studies at Sixth Form and beyond.”

“This has been a challenging year for our students given the change in GCSE grading to a numbered system, but I am incredibly proud of the exceptional attitude to learning that is so much in evidence in our Stamfordians and their teachers. These results are a tremendous achievement, and reflect the true qualities of a Stamfordian: hard work, determination, resilience and ambition to be the best you can be. Learning at Stamford is always a collaboration: these grades owe much to a huge dose of support from parents, as well as an outstanding teaching and support network, and that collaborative approach is a recipe for success. Our students have achieved these significant results alongside undertaking a rich and busy co-curriculum where their contribution and representation across the Schools is much in evidence.  All this prepares them for the next challenge ahead where they will thrive in the Sixth Form. Congratulations once again, and I look forward to further success at A Level.”

Between them, the Pacey twins picked up an outstanding collection of GCSE’s the highlights being 11 A*’s (1 with distinction) and  5 – 9’s.

However, it’s not just their academic prowess that has been on show over the last year, they have also been active outside of the classroom including school productions.

The boys both started their educational journey at Stamford Junior School, they moved up to Stamford School where they won scholarships – Freddie Drama and Jack Art & Academic. They can now concentrate their next adventure as they move on to Stamford’s Sixth Form.

Both were extremely happy with their results and would like to thank the staff for their fantastic support.

One of the highest achievers at Stamford School, Tom amassed an incredible eight A*, two 9’s and an 8 over a broad range of options subjects from Latin to D&T and further mathematics to history.

“I was expecting to get good grades but seeing them on the paper is incredible” commented Tom who was stunned after receiving his results.

Tom has achieved this whilst excelling in many other areas of school life. A keen debater Tom is a rising star in the team having recently chaired the Oswald Elliott Shield, a debating competition competed for by Stamford, Oakham, Uppingham and Oundle. As well as this he was the CEO of the winning regional team in Coca-Cola Real Enterprise Challenge.

Headteacher of Stamford School Nick Gallop said “Tom has performed exceptionally well and we are all very proud of him.  He is a great role model for others – in the classroom and across a range of other activities.  Tom has been particularly inspirational in debating and has represented the school with great success in national competitions.  We look forward to Tom embarking on his Sixth Form education with us next term.”

Stamford High School student and all-round academic Helena Millet has achieved the highest possible grade in 13 GCSEs with a clean sweep of 9 A*s and 2 grade 9s.

Helena has gained an exceptional 13 GCSE grades including French last year and German in Year 8. She is an accomplished linguist and has today received the coveted A*/9 grades in Russian and Latin to add to her accolades in languages.

Helena is an academic and music scholar with Grade 8 in violin and Grade 6 in piano, and she still finds the time to be part of the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, the Cantare choir and the Year 11 String Quintet.

Head of Stamford High School, Vicky Buckman, said: “We are absolutely delighted for Helena; she has juggled her numerous commitments to achieve the highest grade in every subject. Her hard work, determination and commitment are to be admired and we wish her every success as she enters the exciting world of A Levels.”

Stamford High School educates girls from Year 7 to Sixth Form with tailored single gender teaching until GCSE. Helena will now continue her journey at the Stamford Endowed Schools through the co-ed Sixth Form. “In addition to core subjects of Mathematics, English, Sciences and a Modern Foreign Language, Helena also has top grades in history, latin, further mathematics, Russian, French & German.
