Pair score second at ‘Thring Trophy’ Fives Tournament
A pair of students from Stamford School have achieved second place in the Thring Trophy Under 14 Eton Fives Tournament. Four pairs of Year 8 students competed at the tournament, which was held at Uppingham School.
The top two Stamford pairs beat pairs from Oakham, Uppingham, Ipswich and Shrewsbury to meet each other in the semi-finals. Chase Burgess and Cameron Drutman, both Year 8, went on to compete against the seasoned top pair from Shrewsbury, where they achieved their second-place rankings.
Mr Alex Smith, Coach of Stamford School’s Fives Team, said: “Considering that the students needed to work out how to play around the unfamiliar buttress and step of the Eton Court, all of our boys did very well.
“Getting through to the finals on unfamiliar courts, and a year young, was a fantastic achievement! All the boys played well, and importantly, it was noted that the boys conducted themselves in a very courteous and sportsmanlike fashion.”
