Poet, author and rapper, Karl Nova, visits Stamford School

Karl Nova, esteemed poet, author and rapper, has visited Stamford School to talk to the Year 8 and 9.

His talk began with discussion of his latest book, and the resulting Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award (CLiPPA), which he received last year. Students rapped to one of his songs, played interactive games and asked questions about Karl’s experience with writing.

Olly B, Year 8, said: “Karl had a funny and confident personality, making the whole experience entertaining and thought-provoking, as he really got the message ‘poetry is for everyone’ across.”

Following the talk, ten pupils had the chance to participate in a workshop with Karl. Sam M, Year 8, said: “As soon as we entered the classroom, you could tell it was full of energy. Karl was so welcoming, and we could ask him anything about music, rap and poetry; he really gave us a different perspective on poetry.”

James Stephenson, acting Head of English, said: “The boys really enjoyed Karl’s lively and engaging style, and his message that poetry is for everyone. They are still talking about it, and many of them are now enjoying his book ‘Rhythm and Poetry’.“
