Stamford School compete in Debating Mace Regional Finals

Three students from Stamford School recently competed in the English-Speaking Union Schools’ Debating Mace Regional Final, discussing the topic ‘This House would require tech companies to hand over its users’ personal data to law enforcement agencies when requested to do so’.

Harry Laventure and Oliver Fraser, both Year 12, competed alongside Ryan Spall, Year 13, against Oundle, Loughborough Grammar and Chenderit Schools. Stamford narrowly missed out on a place in the National Finals to Oundle.

Mrs Karen Leetch, Stamford’s Debating Coach , said: “The team’s performance at this level was very impressive, with persistent engagement in the debate in the face of an opposition who neither offered nor accepted any points of information!

“I hope that the younger members of the team will be able to capitalise on the experience that they have gained in next year’s competition.”
