Student Competes in Triathlon Championship
A student from the Stamford Schools has competed in the Triathlon Championships, representing the East Midlands team.
Thomas H, Year 8 was one of three boys to qualify in August to represent the East Midlands team in the British Inter-Regional Triathlon Championship.
He qualified after competing against regions from all over the country, including London, Jersey and Scotland.
Thomas was in the Tristar 3 (ages 13-14) and was one of the youngest in his race, competing against 51 other athletes. The tournament took place at Mallory Park, Leicester and consisted of an open water swim, bike ride and run.
He came 44th in the country, carrying out a strong bike and run. As a result of his place in the race he had improved his swimming time by 16 seconds.
Thomas had a great finish to the East Midlands Triathlon series, coming an amazing first place in his final race.
Mrs C Hughes, Deputy Head of Stamford Junior School, said: “Thomas put in maximum effort in the heats and final and was really pleased with his performance.”
