Superstar Stamford Swimmer

A student at Stamford School has seen continued success in swimming.

Jacob B, Year 7, has been ranked Number 1 in Great Britain for the U12 age category in 100m Freestyle, where he holds a two second lead to others currently ranking. The title came among a series of fantastic times and personal bests, swimming in 5 races at his first Long Course Gala (swimming in a 50m pool), held at the Ponds Forge Pool in Sheffield. Jacob has been interviewed by Rutland and Stamford Sound on their breakfast show, celebrating his achievements.

This adds to Jacob’s growing list of accomplishments. At the end of 2021, Jacob swam 15 events at a City of Peterborough Swimming Club (COPS) Season Open Gala, resulting in 15 wins, and 15 gold medals. Biggleswade Christmas Cracker Gala several weeks later resulted in another 11 golds, with wins in every event entered.

Jacob has been swimming with COPS for the last two years, beginning in their Development Squad and moving up during lockdown to their Junior Performance, and later Age Group Performance, Squads. At just 10 years old, Jacob now swims with the squad for 12 to 14 year olds, training a minimum of six swimming and two strength and conditioning sessions a week. These 14 hours of swim sessions usually take place at 5:30am in the morning, or finish as late as 8:30pm, and are all fit in around his schooling.

Jacob’s dream is to one day swim in the Olympics, he said: “In the pool i feel free, I want to win and be better each time, it’s me against the clock!”

Well done Jacob for all of your accomplishments, and good luck in your next competition, at the end of February!
