Triumph At The County Cricket Cup as Y8 Qualify for The National Competition
The Year 8 cricket team at Stamford School have won the county cup against Lincoln Minster, qualifying them for the National competition.
The County Cup usually involves the under 12 Year 7 side competing to qualify for the national cup, however, due to cancellations the County Cup final has taken place at the beginning of the Year 8 year.
After waiting through the summer, the students had not lost their touch and came out in strength. Inspired by the recent T20 and 100 blast they were driven to succeed.
Stamford championed consistency in their performance within the match.
The pitch was small, with small boundaries posing greater risk for fielding against strong batsmen. Lincoln minster did well but with a fast outfield in combination with the small boundaries they struggled to hold back Stamford’s striking shots.
After an early wicket which was run out, Lincoln did well to recover to 81 runs before the 2nd wicket in the 9th over. This wicket signalled the collapse of Lincolns batting which then saw 8 wickets fall in 6 overs, reducing Lincoln to 92 all out.
The final score was 184 runs for 5 wickets to 92 all out providing victory for Stamford.
G Davies bowled particularly well, achieving 3 wickets in 1 over through his tight line and length. Team captain S Chapel broke a personal record, achieving his first half century.
Congratulations to all students who have participated.
