Applying to Stamford High School
It is advisable to get in touch at least twelve months before you would like your daughter to join us, so that you are able to submit your application in good time, visit the Schools, and meet the Head and other members of staff. Please bear in mind that some year groups do get oversubscribed and may have a waiting pool. To enquire click here.
To apply for a place at Stamford High School, please complete and return the Application Form, along with the Application fee of £100.
Girls joining in Year 7 will sit our Entrance Examinations. These consist of computerised, multiple choice English and Maths tests, a piece of creative writing and an informal interview. Applications after January will be considered provided there is space. All applications will be supported by a reference from your daughter’s current school which we will request.
Girls joining in Years 8, 9 or 10 will be invited to school for a Taster Day on a day to suit your family. During the day, they will complete some assessments in cognitive ability, meet the key year group staff, attend some lessons and have an interview with a senior member of staff. Should your daughter wish to apply for any scholarships (Years 9 and 10 only – in music, art, drama, sport or all-rounder) we can arrange for the appropriate assessments to take place during their Taster Day. Girls sitting the Common Entrance Examinations in Year 8, for entry in Year 9 will also attend a Taster Day and sit our assessments. The CE results will also be taken into account. We accept applications for these year groups throughout the year, provided there is space.
Girls joining in Year 12 will be invited to school for a Taster Day on a day to suit your family. During the day, they will have an interview with a senior member of staff and attend lessons in the subjects they favour for A Level. We will ask the students’ schools to provide their predicted GCSE grades, anytime from January onwards, depending upon when the mocks take place. Conditional offers are made based upon these predictions, provided they meet the requisite 5 Grade 6’s or above. Conditional offers become firm offers on results day.

Boarding is becoming increasingly popular in all years, and especially in the Sixth Form, where it can provide an increased level of support as girls prepare for A Levels and start to look ahead to University. We would advise a boarding taster as part of the application process if this is a consideration.
Please contact Mrs Suzie Brownlow for any further information.
