The school can fall back on a wealth of coaching experience. The rugby coaching is led by Mr David Laventure and Mr Austin Kersey who have both coached and played at representative level. The Hockey in the School is run by Director of Hockey Mr Duncan Buckmaster, who has a vast playing history and an extensive coaching portfolio. Cricket comes under the watchful eye of our Director of Cricket, Dean Headley, a former England international, who is well positioned to help and develop our young cricketers in the pre-season during spring term leading into the summer.
We are in a privileged position to enjoy extensive on-site playing fields, squash courts, a well-equipped sports hall, floodlit tennis courts and Astroturf. We are also able to share facilities with our sister school only 5 minutes away. The Sports Centre houses a state of the art weights and fitness room as well as a 25m swimming pool.
Team sports are an important part of life at Stamford School, helping to develop in our students an ethic of fair play, tenacity and team spirit. There is an impressive range of team sports available, ensuring that students will find something that meets their interest and ability.
We offer a huge array of individual sports, fostering a sense of personal discipline, enjoyment of the sport and a positive attitude towards health and fitness.

Links with Clubs
Stamford enjoys an official partnership with the Leicester Tigers as part of the ‘Good to Great’ programme. This allows for positive interaction between coaching staff and means Stamford’s high-performance candidates can enjoy a unique rugby experience, including access to academy coaching and technical support. A number of Stamford boys have been involved in the Tigers Academy Under-18 League champions wins in both 2019 and 2018.
Sporting Code of Conduct
Thanks to the Stamfordians of the past, Stamford School enjoys an outstanding reputation and a fine sporting tradition. We carry the responsibility to nurture that tradition and enhance that reputation further.
We will conduct ourselves as honest, well-mannered gentlemen during all matches and competitions. We will all:
- Show the highest standards of behaviour in never challenging the decisions of the referee/umpires/officials of the contest. He or she will be addressed politely and respectfully.
- Shake hands and thank the referee/umpires/officials and the opposition for the contest.
- Show the highest standards of behaviour in competing with members of the opposition.
We will set ourselves the highest standards of dress, both in and outside the competitive arena.
As spectators we will support enthusiastically the efforts of all our players and just as importantly respect the decisions of all match officials.
We will communicate effectively with our coaches and staff in any possible situations that may require absence (including a letter to the Headmaster).
We will give nothing less than 100% endeavour in our pursuit of winning whilst enjoying and improving Stamford School sport .
