Thirty-six pupils from the Stamford Junior School have competed in an afternoon of Cross Country running at Copthill School, with three of their teams winning gold in their events.
The Under 9 team ran a 1.4km, and Under 11 team ran 2.4km; both on a mixture of a grass and gravel track.
Winning teams included the Under 9 boys who scored 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 21st and 31st, the U11 Girls A Team, who achieved 2nd, 8th, 10th, 12th, 13th and 26th, and the Under 11 Boys A Team, who came 6th, 6th, 11th, 13th, 17th and 21st.
Impressive efforts were also made by our U9 Girls Team, coming respectable 17th, 37th, 39th, 46th, 56th and 57th places individually, the U11 Girls B Team, who scored 38th, 40th, 48th and 56th, and the Under 11 Boys B Team, who achieved 15th, 18th, 22nd, 24th, 26th and 55th.
The SJS Staff Crosscountry team, formed of Mr Fell, Miss Holt and Mrs Hughes, said: “The cross-country team enjoyed a very good afternoon at the annual Copthill XC race.
“It was really pleasing to see all of our pupils giving it their best and showing a huge amount of resilience, on what was a challenging course. Three pupils fell over, one lost his shoe, and another stopped to help up another athlete who had fallen, meaning she lost quite a few places in the process.
“It was also great to see the team recognised for their efforts with a number of individual medals and multiple team victories. We look forward to seeing them in action once again at the the Maidwell XC competition next week. “
