Old Student Q&A's

Josephine Vie, OS 20, is a dance student studying BA(Hons) in Dance at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

What to expect at a typical dance audition, any advice to prospective Dance students regarding auditions?

It’s a very intense and high energy experience, come prepared with every and any shoe possible and endless amounts of lucozade! Showing who you are and your personality is more important than some may think, most places are really interested in how you can fit in with their ethos and students and what you bring to a group situation.

What is a typical day in the life of a dance student?

On a normal day, warm up starts at 8.30, followed by two hour and a half classes. I have a maximum of 45 mins for lunch and then have two more hour and a half classes. On a quiet day I finish at 6; however, I normally have rehearsals or stay in the studio to practice until later. This is the same Monday – Friday. Term 3 is usually a bit different as it’s show term so is a lot more intense, and we finish days a lot later.

What aspects of the course do you enjoy?

I enjoy aerial a lot, something that I’d never done before going to LIPA, however, I have found a passion for it. I also enjoyed show term as I was so grateful to experience the support and environment surrounding my peers.

What aspirations do you have for the future?

Depending on where I’m located, I plan to potentially go into commercial dance, and would love to dance abroad and experience the different ways in which dance is taught and communicated throughout communities.

Where can people reach you?
